Why Materials Matters

Shopping consciously for your children's clothes can be puzzling, especially when it comes to the ever evolving stream of sustainable terminologies. To help you navigate technical terms, we’ve put together a quick explainer to introduce our Cotton, the OEKO-TEX® certification and why they safeguard us and our families.
At HoLM THINGS, we design garments with purpose. Each item is created for and tested by kids with the intention to be loved and enjoyed time and time again. To be passed down to siblings, cousins and friends, or given a new life thanks to our mending accessories.
As a kidswear brand, we believe there should be no compromise when it comes to materials on our children’s skin and we are devoted to textile quality and safety. This is why our fabric composition is 100% Cotton down to thread and labels and all our fabrics and components are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified.
What is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100?
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a label for textiles tested for harmful substances. It sets the benchmark for harmfulness of materials, from yarn to finished product. Every item bearing the STANDARD 100 label is certified as having passed safety tests for the presence of toxic substances.
And when it comes to the little ones’ safety, no stone is left unturned. The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification is indeed a meticulous process; every thread has been tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances. The more intensive the skin contact, the stricter the human ecology requirements and laboratory tests.
Children are firmly at the heart of everything we do at HoLM THINGS. We chose to join the OEKO-TEX® standards because we believe we should protect ourselves, our families and the environment against toxins present in harmful textiles that can in fact damage our health through mere contact.
Peace of mind, now and in the future
OEKO-TEX® is an international association for research and testing in the field of textile and leather ecology, consisting of 17 independent testing institutes across Europe and Japan. They use globally standardised test criteria and the certification complies with international requirements and regulations.
To keep up with new emerging science, the OEKO-TEX® team reviews limit values for harmful substances at least once a year. This allows you, the final consumer, to manage risk and protect both people and the planet
We hope that this post will have shed some light into the importance of using safe and organic materials in clothing manufacturing. Follow us at @holm_things for more information on our purpose and aspirations.
With love,
